Liberia's Annual Bible Drive
MISSION
To send annually 6,000 Bibles to our brothers and sisters in Christ living in rural Liberia, West Africa, who are in great need of the word of God.
THE NEED FOR BIBLES IN LIBERIA

Students, teachers, and staff and over 80% of the people we serve, particularly in rural Liberia, do not have access to a Bible let alone have a Bible of their own. This is our greatest opportunity to share our faith, the greatest gift and hope we have as Christians, the Word of God with forgotten rural schools, churches, communities, Bible study groups, youth and child ministries, college ministries (e.g.Young Life) and even businesses!

WHY BIBLES?

During the heat of COVID-19 in Liberia, all churches were shut down for more than half a year. Therefore, many of our brothers and sisters in Christ couldn’t go to church to hear the word of God from their local pastors and they do not have a Bible of their own to read at home. There are no online church services or phones, computers, tablets etc. from which they can access Scripture, we have in America (including the pleasure and opportunity of choosing from over 20 different versions of the Bible).

In a country like Liberia, which is the poorest country in the world, there is no healthcare system, no stimulus check, no COVID-19 Relief Package, no food stamps, nothing to look forward to. All they had is their unshakable faith in God and yet they could not hear nor read His word. At the end of November 2020, the people in the communities and schools we serve came to me and said, “Brother Eric, we truly appreciate everything you and our American brothers and sisters have been doing and continue to do for us by giving us education, food, shipping containers, building schools, health support and so on and so forth. Please, we want to plead with you and your partners in America to kindly ship us some Bibles so that we can read the word of God for ourselves and better understand God’s plans and purpose for our lives. This is our number one urgent and important request for 2021.”
What a witnessing opportunity this will be in Liberia as well, when people of all religions, tribal and Muslim, see a giant school bus overflowing with Bibles!! It will be such a symbol of the hope and love of Christ!

BIBLES ARE NOT ACCESSIBLE NOR AFFORDABLE FOR RURAL PEOPLE IN LIBERIA

The cost of a paperback Bible in Liberia is $10.00, and the average person earns $3 per day so it is not affordable. In addition, there are no bookstores in rural Liberia where people can buy themselves a Bible.

JOIN THE LIBERIA’S BIBLE DRIVE CAMPAIGN

Join the movement by PRAYING, sharing, talking about and sponsoring Bibles for $5 apiece! One person cannot do this, but God can do anything when we come together! As the Bibles are sponsored for $5 each, $2 will go towards the cost of shipping. Shipping has nearly doubled since Covid. So, please join us in praying that God will provide sponsors for 6000 BIBLES in the next month!

WHERE SPECIFICALLY WILL THESE BIBLES GO IN LIBERIA?

The Bibles will go specifically to the schools and communities that we help in rural Liberia and students and others who participate in Young Life and Campus Fellowship in schools and surrounding areas. We are talking about over 50,000 people across the country that we serve.

WHERE WILL THE BIBLES BE PURCHASED?Once we raise enough money to buy at least 3,000 Bibles for The Bible Bus Project, we will order them online from Christian Book website at: https://www.christianbook.com/ Tel: 1-800-CHRISTIAN. Christian Book will deliver the Bibles to us in Lafayette Louisiana for immediate shipment to Liberia West Africa.
-
WHAT LANGUAGE WILL THE BIBLE BE IN AND WHY LIBERIA?These Bibles are in English, which is the official business language of Liberia. Liberia is a country in West Africa which was founded in the 1800s, established, colonized, and controlled by citizens of the United States and ex-Caribbean slaves as a colony for former African American slaves and their free black descendants. The constitution and system of government of Liberia were modeled on that of the United States. Liberia's first constitution was written by Professor Simeon Greenleaf of Harvard Law School in 1847. Liberia’s population is 4.5 million, about the size of the state of Ohio.
-
HOW WILL THESE BIBLES GET TO LIBERIA?The Bibles will be placed on pallets and loaded onto a 60-seat yellow school bus which is presently located in Lafayette, Louisiana and then transported to the seaport of either Galveston or Freeport in Texas. The Bible Bus will finally be placed on a vehicle ship to Africa. The estimated arrival time in the seaport of Liberia is one month. After arrival, The Bible Bus’s paperwork will be processed and released from customs and taken to its final destination for distribution to those in need of them in rural Liberia by our local Liberian team.

CAN I ALSO DONATE MY USED BIBLES, COMMENTARIES AND/OR CHRISTIAN LITERATURES TO THE LIBERIA’S ANNUAL BIBLE DRIVE CAMPAIGN?Yes, you can! We are collecting used Bibles as well from our sisters and brothers in Christ in America to be shipped to Liberia on the Bible bus. The ultimate goal is to help Americans be good stewards of the word of God that they have been given. The Liberia Bible Drive was inspired by the story of Jesus feeding the 5,000 and asking his disciples to gather the leftovers. This scripture tells us that God does not like waste. This is exactly what the Bible Bus project is all about, gathering the extra Bibles in our homes, offices, churches and schools. These Bibles will be traveling over 5,000 miles to our brothers and sisters in Christ in rural Liberia who are in great need of Bibles. We realize that some American Christians have more than five Bibles in their household that they may never read again nor throw away and those Bibles are sitting on shelves in their homes looking for a new home and a new reader. For every Bible donated, we ask that you kindly give an extra $3 to help us cover the shipping cost. There is no limit to the number of Bibles, Christian books and commentaries you can donate. We believe that used Bibles will be a big help to our brothers and sisters who are new Christians to be able to read and comprehend the word of God because many are already highlighted or underlined by the previous owner, thereby making it easy for the recipient to understand.
-
CAN I ALSO GIVE A NEW BIBLE?Yes, you can give a new Bible; we kindly ask that you make a donation of $3 per Bible to help with the shipping cost. There is no limit to number of Bibles you can give.
-
CAN I VOLUNTEER TO COLLECT BIBLES?Yes, you can! We are looking for volunteers in your local area to spread the word about this incredible opportunity to share the word of God with Liberians and to collect and store Bibles in your home, office or church until we pick them up. If you are interested or believe that this is something God is calling you to be a part of, we would love to hear from you. We believe that many American Christians may never go on a mission trip to evangelize. So, this will be their greatest opportunity to evangelize without physically going to Liberia, West Africa.
