Liberia's Feed the Hungry Campaign

WE WANT YOU TO PARTNER WITH US TO SEND RICE TO LIBERIA, AFRICA.

I write on behalf of the vulnerable children and struggling people of Liberia in the name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ to kindly ask you, and your family to join our Feed the Hungry Campaign for Liberia by helping to buy 840 bags of 50 lbs, Long Grain American Rice. We will purchase the rice from Supreme Rice Mill located in Crowley Louisiana. We want to use the next two to three weeks to purchase the rice to feed the hungry in this West African poverty-stricken county.  A 50 lbs bag of rice purchase from this rice mill will cost about $15.00

SEVERE FOOD SCARCITY IN LIBERIA

It is unimaginable in 2022 to have a whole country staving because of no food. Our brothers and sisters, as well as children are starving in Liberia, West Africa simply because of NO FOOD. Liberia is amongst the top ten poorest nations of the world. Prior to the Ukraine war, and the global economic crisis, a bag of 25 lbs low quality rice from China, India, and other countries was sold for $15.00 in Liberia which was affordable. The American Long Grain Rice 25 lbs was sold for $40.  But now, the price of the same rice has triple in cost, and it is not even available on the market to buy. This ugly situation is causing a lot of anger, frustration, and conflict which could lead to civil unrest and deaths in the country if the world does not respond now.

THE CAUSE OF FOOD SCARCITY

The food scarcity is not unique to Liberia because there is presently an economic and

global food shortage which is also affecting America. But unfortunately, it is the

poorest of the poor countries like Liberia that are being hit the hardest. The cause of

the food scarcity can be attributed to several factors, amongst them is the horrible

Ukraine war, the on-going global economic crisis, inflation, high cost of fuel,

skyrocketing prices, supply chain crisis, shortage of basic human survival needs,

drought faced by farmers, the disruption of the supply of Fertilizers, Wheat, Flour, and

Grains from both Russia and Ukraine to particularly Africa.

Liberia imports everything from other countries including its most staple food which is rice from China, India, Japan, Thailand, etc. But because of the present economic and global food crisis, these countries have drastically reduced the exports of food to other countries. They are keeping what they have for their domestic consumption. The minimum wage in Liberia for teachers, nurses, and other professionals is a $100.00 per month. If they have to spend $50.00 to buy one bag of 50 lbs rice to feed their families per month, they will have very little money left to meet other critical family needs like education, healthcare, and housing.

WHY FEED CHILDREN IN SCHOOL?

Do you know that 120 bags of rice will feed over 500 students five days a week for ten months in each of our school in Liberia? Research shows a healthy, school-provided lunch can improve student enrollment and outcomes. Healthy school-provided meals can improve attendance, classroom attention, cognition, academic performance, social skills, nutrition, and the health of children, while also addressing food insecurity issues in individual students' homes. The food we provide at school is the only meal most of our students will have for the entire week. Parents at home provide food for their children basically on the weekends.

HOW WILL THE RICE BE SHIPPED TO LIBERIA?

We currently have a 40ft shipping container located in Scott Louisiana which is about 20 miles away from the Supreme Rice Mill. This is the container we are going to use to ship the 600 bags of rice to Liberia via the seaport of Houston Texas. The estimated arrival time in Liberia is January 2023. We want to ensure that our brothers and sisters have some food to eat to celebrate the birth of Christ.
